Campus Incident Posted on November 3rd, 2008 by

I write to notify you of bias-related incidents that occurred over
the weekend and to seek your assistance, both in addressing these
incidents, as well as in eradicating such occurrences from our campus.

Roughly between the hours of 7 and 11 p.m. on Saturday, November 1st, some nine automobiles parked both on and off campus were vandalized with graffiti that appears to reflect bias against individuals’ actual or perceived race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.  The incidents were reported to campus Safety and Security officers who responded to the scene, documented the incident, and sought to be of assistance to victims.  The Dean of Students Office, Campus Safety and Security, and the St. Peter Police Department are pursuing this matter, as appropriate.

The College will not condone nor will it tolerate hateful acts that are motivated by race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, ethnicity, or disability, and seeks to respond to them promptly and seriously, and in ways that respect individual privacy.  Information on what YOU can do to make a difference is available at:

If you have any information whatsoever about any of the above incidents,
please contact the Dean of Students Office (202 Campus Center —
933-7526), the Diversity Center (107 Campus Center — 933-7449), or
Safety and Security (035 Norelius  — 933-8888).  You are also invited
to make report what you may know about these incidents through the
“Silent Witness Program” at: http://gustavus.edu/security/silentwitness/

Thank you.
