Weather advisory Posted on January 23rd, 2009 by

The U.S. Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory until midnight Saturday, January 24th.

A wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate low wind chills.  This will result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.

If you must venture outdoors, make sure you dress warmly and keep exposed skin to a minimum (hat and gloves/mittens).  Other precautions that may also be helpful in hazardous weather include:
– traveling with others rather than alone;
– letting friends know where you are going and when you plan to return;
– carrying a cell phone with emergency numbers programmed into it;
– carrying personal identification with you; and
– watching out for one another.

Should you get in trouble or see someone else having difficulty, don’t hesitate to contact Gustavus Safety and Security at 933-8888 or the St. Peter Police Department at 931-1550.
